Constipation During Pregnancy
As hormones continue to surge, your bowel muscles also will relax during pregnancy. This can mean your intestines might be less efficient at moving waste out of your system. This can result in bloating and gas with constipation which is normal. Your growing uterus is also putting pressure on your bowels, which can make it harder to move water through your system.
To treat constipation, you will want to focus on your water intake and drink plenty of fluids you can also enjoy fruit or vegetable juices as well. Fiber can also be a great tool to help with constipation, you can add extra fiber into your diet or start a fiber supplement. If you are not used to a fiber-enriched diet start slow with adding those items as it can cause you to be very gassy or uncomfortable. Another thing that can help get those intestines moving is starting light exercise regularly, which could be a brisk walk.
Please discuss any options with your provider prior to starting a medication such as laxatives.
Remember to focus on drinking plenty of water/fluids.
