Types of Urinary Incontinence
Stress Incontinence
- Urine leaks when pressure is exerted on the bladder by coughing, sneezing, laughing, exercising, or lifting heavy objects.
Urge Incontinence
- A sudden, intense urge to urinate followed by an involuntary loss of urine
- Often have the urge to urinate, including throughout the night
- It May be caused by a minor condition such as infection or a more severe condition such as a neurologic disorder or diabetes
Overflow Incontinence
- Frequent or constant dribbling of urine due to a bladder that does not empty completely
Functional Incontinence
- A physical or mental impairment that inhibits making it to the toilet in time (for example, severe arthritis that makes it so you are not able to walk quickly enough)
Mixed Incontinence
- More than one of the types listed above
